Smart Wires is currently looking for a Project Manager based in Colombia, preferably close to Medellin, Colombia to support our Project Management team.

The Position

Smart Wires is reimagining the grid with our modular SmartValve technology and grid enhancement solutions. The Smart Wires team aims to ensure that Smart Wires’ current and future products enable the energy transition to clean affordable renewable energy by modernizing the grid with our unique technology for two-way power flow control. Allowing our customers to meet the challenges and capture the opportunities of this global movement. The grid is the new frontier in energy, it is central to unlocking the energy transition

We are looking for a Project Manager to work closely with our utility customer stakeholders and various internal Smart Wires stakeholders to efficiently and effectively deploy Smart Wires technology in major utilities’ substations.

Primary Responsibilities

In this role, you will be accountable for the delivery of multi-million dollar projects within scope, on budget, and on time. You must have a remarkable blend of relationship management, planning, execution, and/or engineering skills to achieve outstanding results for our customers. Your most important responsibilities will likely be to:

  • Manage multiple large and complex projects simultaneously while developing and maintaining good relationships with a variety of key stakeholders
  • Serve as our internal lead and our customers’ primary point of contact throughout the following project phases: initiation; planning; engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC); factory acceptance testing; shipping; installation; commissioning; and closure
  • Review contract conditions and ensure compliance with all contract terms
  • Document all significant project events, such as accidents, delays, and change orders
  • Provide timely and accurate status updates to key Smart Wires management and stakeholders
  • Estimate budgets and contract prices, track spending against budgets, and deliver projects on budget
  • Negotiate cost-effective subcontract and material purchases
  • Keep projects on schedule and deliver projects on time
  • Negotiate, prepare, and issue subcontract bid packages
  • Help identify, prioritize, and execute process improvements
  • Travel to customer sites across Latin America, as necessary
  • Ensure safety plans and procedures are in place and implemented
  • Support business development and other activities as assigned

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • Fluent in both Spanish and English
  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering, project management, or construction management
  • 5-10 years of utility substation deployment experience
  • 5-10 years of relevant project management experience and a thorough understanding of all project management control systems (scheduling, cost control, safety, procurement and estimating)
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law and project accounting

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Civil, structural or electrical engineering experience and/or education is preferred as well as experience in HV substations
  • Possess remarkably strong communication and organizational skills
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certified
  • Are passionate about managing large utility and/or EPC projects
  • Are proactive and resourceful
  • Remain calm in high stress environments
  • Problem solve independently and synthesize information from various sources
  • Work efficiently and comfortably handle multiple projects and tasks concurrently by effectively managing internal interactions and competing priorities
  • Understand the value of learning from unusually bright and passionate coworkers and supervisors that are committed to rapid professional development
  • Are determined to make a positive, long-lasting impact on climate change

Location

This is a hybrid or remote position based in Colombia, preferably close to Medellin.

Travel Requirements

  • The role will require travel up to 30% of the year depending on the project as well as international travel to our factory in Florida, US
