The MongoDB Research Machine Learning Group conducts research at the intersection of ML and databases, an extremely active area of research. Because MongoDB stores semi-structured data (i.e., the Document Model), our ML research presents unique opportunities. We are applying state-of-the-art deep learning architectures such as transformers and large language models to this unique data model. Our work has the potential to improve existing products, create entirely new products, and substantially transform and grow MongoDB's business.
Our small team is growing and we are seeking Research Engineers to join us in this exciting and innovative space. The areas we are interested in include (but are not limited to) transformers and large language models, density estimation, modelling of tabular and semi-structured data, learned data structures and algorithms, distributed training and inference, privacy.
Role Expectations
- Work on end-to-end research projects: from ideation, requirements gathering and model design to prototyping, evaluation and analysis, and deployment with engineering teams
- Identify interesting research trends and their applications to MongoDB
- Depending on seniority and experience, mentor team members.
- Be part of a collaborative learning and growth-oriented environment
- Advise engineering and product teams on ML questions and democratise ML knowledge and best practices across the organisation
What we are looking for
- A background in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Computational Statistics, Machine Learning or related technical fields
- Extensive industrial experience in an engineering role with focus on Machine Learning or Data Science
- Python proficiency and experience with common ML libraries (e.g. Pandas, scikit-learn, numpy, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, etc.)
- Proven success in designing, implementing, training, testing and maintaining machine learning models with Python, including deep neural networks and transformers, and a strong understanding of their underlying maths
- Excellent technical communication skills, verbal and written, and desire to collaborate and contribute to a fun and engaging work environment
- Creative, out-of-the-box thinkers who show initiative are particularly welcomed
